Muscle Building: It’s Ok To Have Fun

When the hard work is done, it’s ok to have fun.
It’s not uncommon to hear the follow advice on forums or in muscle building articles: “That exercise isn’t the most efficient or most effective. You really shouldn’t do it.”  Is this true? Is there no room for fun lifts, or your favorite lifts in a workout? Yes, there is room for your favorite exercises, even if they aren’t effective by someone else’s standards.
Use this rule: Workouts can be 80% efficient, 20% fun.
Start each workout with the known muscle builders; the “big hitters”: squats, bench press, rows, deadlifts, overhead presses, etc. If the first 80% of your workouts are filled with potent muscle building movements, it’s ok to end a workout with 1-2 of your favorite “fun” lifts.
Exercise should be fun. If you enjoy doing something, then do it. But only after the potent growth movements are done.
